Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to provide you with an important update regarding a developing situation in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our students, and we want to ensure that you are fully informed about the current circumstances.
As you may be aware, the closest wildfire is approaching Allison Bay, which has prompted Mikisew Cree First Nation to be on heightened alert. In light of this situation, they are advising all Allison Bay residents to go home and be prepared for a potential evacuation if necessary.
Considering the potential risks associated with the wildfire, we kindly request that ALL parents promptly come to the school and retrieve your children. Please check them out with Will Meers at the office, as it will help us maintain an accurate record of attendance during this critical period.
In the event that you are unable to make it to the school personally, we want to assure you that we will provide transportation to ensure the safe return of your children. Our priority is to reunite families and ensure everyone's well-being during this time.
To facilitate the coordination efforts, students are currently gathered in the gymnasium. Our staff members are present and are emphasizing the importance of staying calm and these necessary steps are out of an abundance of caution and in the spirit of being prepared should the appropriate authorities in fact initiate an evacuation order for the community.
It is important to note that there is currently no evacuation order in place - this is an alert. However, we are taking proactive measures out of an abundance of caution, and we will be closely following the guidance and directions provided by regional authorities. Your cooperation and support are greatly appreciated as we navigate this situation together.
We understand that this update may cause some concern, but rest assured that we are working diligently to ensure the safety of all students and staff members. We will continue to provide you with any further updates as they become available.
If you have any immediate questions or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. We are here to support you and your children during this time of heightened alert.
Thank you for your cooperation, understanding, and swift action. Together, we will navigate this situation and prioritize the safety of our students and the community.
